For the students of Yuli junior high school students
To be honest, when I first joined this program, I was also thinking about what I could "teach" you. After all, I'm only a dozen years older than you. More than teaching, I can share the emotions and self-interpretation that a creative process brings me.
In this class, I don't want you to approach it with the mindset of completing a work. Instead, I designed a simple question: "If you had your own body, how would you explain it, how would you give it a narrative?" In this body stripped of all identities and social roles, you have the right to explain "who I am." This is the greatest inspiration that creation brings me.
For you, these three weeks may have just been about participating in a fun activity, but I hope that through this experience you can feel that creation is a way of self-interpretation. In this process, there will be a very subtle dialogue between you and your work, which may be something you have never thought about, but your body's intuition will reflect in the work.
Creation can be a very simple concept or feeling; at the same time, you can create a world that belongs to you.
I hope that one day you can write a sentence, a doodle, a melody, or even just an idea from the bottom of your heart and express it frankly. That thing is your way of interpreting yourself, it is your creation, and that is more valuable to me than any objective information.
You may not pursue a career in art in the future, but perhaps this brief experience has given you a chance to connect with your body and your artwork—that's enough. I wish you all the best in experiencing life at this age and finding the version of yourself you love.
Finally, as is customary, I wish you all the best, smooth sailing, and success in your exams.
